Ocean and Atmosphere Pacific International Conference, 23-27th October 1995, Adelaide - South Australia

An international scientific conference addressing the issue of sea level and climate variability and change in the Pacific Ocean.

The conference is an integral component of the South Pacific Sea Level and Climate Monitoring Project, managed by the National Tidal Facility, The Flinders University of South Australia, and sponsored by the Australian International Development Assistance Bureau.

Ocean and Atmosphere Pacific is designed to assess and report the scientific knowledge on the variability and secular trend in sea level and climate of the Pacific region and to make this information available to the governments of the region. The South Pacific Sea Level and Climate Monitoring Project has established a network of high precision sea level and climate monitoring stations in eleven island nations of the South Pacific Forum since 1992 and has recently initiated a regionally based information and training programme. This conference will provide an opportunity to report on the Project and present some preliminary findings, but more importantly, to exchange knowledge on this issue of deep concern to the island nations of the region.

This conference will be of particular interest to members of the international scientific community focussing upon;

1) climate and sea level problems generally but with emphasis in the Pacific region;

2) global warming;

3) the ENSO phenomenon.

Papers are being sought in all areas of sea level and climate variability and change, including monitoring, research and modelling. Generally, presentations will be limited to 20 minutes. Prospective authors should notify the Scientific Committee of the title of their paper as soon as possible. Abstracts will be required by 31st May 1995 and full papers at the start of the conference. Poster papers are also welcome.

The venue is a five star international hotel in central Adelaide, South Australia, offering excellent accommodation. Other style accommodation is readily available within walking distance of the venue.
