The objective of this work package is to develop early storm surge warning
systems. Therefore, tidal models have to be calibrated and particular
applications have to be designed. To provide these systems with data, hourly andreal time sea level data is required.
Groups at the
Rijkswaterstaat (Netherlands) and POL (UK) have expressed an interest in
contributing to the project. The principle challenge facing this work package
is the harmonisation of regional and local scale tidal and storm surge models.
Currently, the adaptation of models to specific applications preclude their
general application to other areas (in the case of local tidal/surge models)
or from large area to small scales (in the case of regional scale models). The
development of generic tidal and storm surge models for flood prevention and
management applications is the goal of this work package.
